Vintage Japanese costume jewelry is very well made, far better than most contemporary "fashion jewelry," with many pieces on par with Coro, Trifari, Lisner. Often designs are mistaken for Miriam Haskell because of the detailed workmanship. Historically, Post WWII labor in Japan was cheap, thus the jewelry was inexpensive and put out in large quantities. We should remember however, that most work coming from Japan post WWII is not only hand strung but also hand painted in such an array of designs that rarely are two Japan necklaces found exactly alike. In fact, many Coro bead necklaces of the 1940's and 1950's were actually imported from Japan, which may also be true for some of the Lisner bead necklaces. -
Who was Patrica?
4:10 PM PST, 12/28/2009
Patrica was not only my mother, but a successful interior decorator in the Los Angeles and Orange County area from 1959-2003. She decorated homes in many areas including Laguna Beach, Pacific Palisades, Rolling Hills, Santa Monica, Pasadena and the surrounding area. She was a fun loving artistic personality and spent her retirement years serving as a Docent at the Bixby Museum of Art in Long Beach, California. If you purchase any of her vintage jewelry you will be in the company of someone with excellent taste. -
